Learn From the Mistakes and Move Ahead With New Marketing Plans on Social Media

Mistakes happen to every one of us. Whether you consider social media as a way to remain connected with family and friends or a marketing tool, you must be aware of the power of social platforms. I believe that social media is a powerful tool to successfully promote your brand, products, or yourself, if used correctly. A major hiccup can tarnish your personal as well as professional reputation.

Using the wrong metrics

If you deal with a subject you do not understand, you tend to gain some control by applying the same rules that have worked for you in your area of expertise. It is the cause of so many mistakes.
I have made an observation that lots of old-school marketers make such mistakes while measuring the success of their social media marketing campaign. I suggest people to stay away from the number of fans or followers, as social footprint does not make a difference on social media. What matters most is how much people willingly talk about business by promoting it on Twitter. To my mind, businesses that understand the social media marketing should use the metrics that make sense.

Treating every social media platform the same

It does not take a genius to realise that every social media is different. Each format offers different languages to different audiences. Take a look at your social media accounts, and if you find the same person or brand sending out same message on different social accounts, consider it impersonal and spam.
I suggest marketers to at first take the time to understand each service and their functions. By doing so, you can customise messages and make them more effective.

Putting quantity over quality

I personally feel that quality should matter the most and must be the focus, instead of how many followers or friends you have in your network. Share great content and search for the people truly interested in your brand. If you are posting 10 sub-par articles each day, I would suggest you to focus on pieces that may drive traffic and influence discussions.

Improper use of @, # and images

On social media, if you start with @, this will be considered as a reply, which could only be seen by you and the other person you are replying to. However, if you place a period or even ‘the’ before @, the message will be visible to everyone in your feed.
Using hashtags improves engagement but I suggest you not to overdo it. Using trending and irrelevant hashtag will do no good to you, as far as lead generation is concerned. In addition, do not add hashtag before every word; keep it to one or two in each post. At last, I would say you to add visual aids, as we truly love beautiful images.
If you are keen to hang around and stay current with each new turn, you have a solid chance to win the social media street race.
